And the NOCTOY goes to...

The prestigious equivalent of the Oscars for film is the NACTOY in the auto industry, the North American Car/Truck of the Year Award. Only one car is selected for the car category and one vehicle is selected from the truck category, make this the most coveted award in the auto industry. And Monday January 9, 2012, the winners of each category were announced. This year's NACTOY goes to? surprise, surprise the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque.

The smallest member of the Land Rover family is making big moves in the new year, and Land Rover hopes the award will help reign in new customers, who are skeptical of the breakthrough Rover. Land Rover North America President Andy Goss will gladly take the prize for the Evoque, Monday's truck winner, which he calls the "David in a world of Goliaths." Goss added, "it's humbling for the company, which has had finalists but never been a winner in the 19 years that the award's been given."

Land Rover's Goss made intentions clear Monday in his acceptance speech: "We're going to market the hell out of this." And they should. This is not an easy award to take home. The jury consists of 50 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada. These esteemed journalists judge hundreds of vehicles based on factors including innovation, comfort, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar. The Range Rover Evoque is definitely a value, starting at just $43,995 for the 5-door and $44,995 for the Range Rover Evoque coupe.

If you're interested in the Evoque near Winter Park, are at Land Rover Orlando.
