Land Rover thrives in 2012

There is no debate that in recent years, a shift in the market has moved toward more fuel- efficient vehicles. "Green", as many call it, is the new black for SUVS, and Land Rover has, in some ways, adapted to this trend with vehicles like the uber-popular Range Rover Evoque averaging 28mpg. However, some of the flagship SUVs, like the Range Rover or RR Sport, still aren't quite hitting those high mpgs, but are flying Land Rover dealer's lots. So in a down market, what has Land Rover, a SUV maker, done to boost sales in a green market?

Well, most noticeably, they are craftsmen. Land Rover has maintained cues of their elegant English design and style for over 60 years. Athletes, movie stars, business moguls, and royalty have coveted these cars for their sheer luxury performance. From the inside out, these vehicles have all the detailing the upper class needs.

And as Forbes pointed out, "the average age of the Land Rover brand buyer is 45, a full 5 years younger than the average age for all luxury SUV buyers combined. Thirty-one percent of all Land Rover buyers are between 35-44 years old and even more telling, 10% of all Land Rover buyers are just 30-34 years old, which means they have managed to capture the younger luxury buyer at a very early age, an envious position for any automaker." Hooking a younger market means creating strong brand loyalty for years and generations to come.

Land Rover has become a symbol of buttoned up power. While some SUVs, with similar capabilities and fuel mileage has gone extinct recently, Land Rover has managed to leverage luxury and stay afloat? actually thriving.
