PERFORMANCE
Defender

Feel the power that comes with the Defender and the Toyota 4Runner. Both vehicles give a worthwhile show every time they get on the road. Travel far and wide with either one.

Power Galore

Under the hood of a Defender, you’ll find one of three engines: a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine that produces 296 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, a 3.0L engine that delivers 395 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, or a 5.0L engine that amasses a whopping 518 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque.

Not only does the Toyota 4Runner have less power, but it also doesn’t give you multiple engine options. Across all trims, the 4Runner offers a 4.0L V6 engine that produces 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque.

Stay On Course

Fuel consumption is a big factor for many drivers when deciding their next ride. Not only are the Defender and the 4Runner two high-powered vehicles, but they also offer great mileage per gallon. However, you can go a bit farther with the Defender than you can with the 4Runner.

In the Defender, you’ll achieve an EPA-estimated 18 city/21 highway MPG.* The 4Runner can only produce an EPA-estimated 16 city/19 highway MPG rating. So, if you’re looking to maximize your fuel economy, the Defender would be a better bet.

TECHNOLOGY
Defender

Go forward with the future. Vehicles being only a set of wheels is a thing of the past. The Defender and 4Runner offer a variety of infotainment and safety features that will give you the experience you desire on the road.

Keep The Party Going

No matter where you’re headed, you’ll love the convenience of connecting your phone to your vehicle and having access to everything you could ever want. Both the Defender and the 4Runner come standard with Sirius XM® radio as well as Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.

One distinct difference that the Defender has over the Toyota is that its standard touchscreen is markedly bigger at 10 inches. The touchscreen in the Toyota is only eight inches. This means that you’ll be able to see things much clearer in the Defender, which will help you focus better on the road.

Safety

Both the Defender and 4Runner come with a variety of driver assistance features to keep you feeling reassured on the road. Check it out:

  • Blind Spot Assist
  • 3D Surround Camera
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Rear Traffic Monitor

These vehicles are here to support you every step of the way.

However, a unique driving assistance feature that is offered on the Defender is Wade Sensing. This technology helps you navigate streams and flooded roads safely by using vehicle-mounted sonar pulses. Unfortunately, the 4Runner does not have an equivalent feature.

INTERIOR
Defender

Feel luxurious in either the Defender or 4Runner with great amenities and ample space for travel. No matter which vehicle you choose, you will feel comfortable through even the longest travel days.

Oasis-Like Amenities

Both the Defender and the 4Runner offer premium comfort. At the base level, you’ll enjoy plus front-row seating. The big difference here is that the seats in the Defender come with a standard heating feature. Heated front seats are available on higher 4Runner trim levels.

Beyond this, on the highest available trim for the Defender you have access to the incredible 18-way heated and cooled electric driver memory front seats. The 4Runner is a great option as well but it falls short to the Defender in comparison, offering 8-way adjustable front seats with power lumbar support.

Great for Travel

When you are traveling with your entire family, you'll need ample space. Both models have cargo space covered, so, pack your suitcase and throw it in the back! However, the Defender has a trick up its sleeve.

Yes, the standard Defender is a 2-door model, and did you know it also seats up to six passengers? That’s right, a third seat pops up between you and your co-pilot for one of your fellow adventurers. Isn’t that cool? The 4Runner, however, only seats up to five riders with its standard configuration.
