The Range Rover Evoque and the BMW X3 each equip a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that generates approximately 250 horsepower, an impressive amount for a compact crossover. The Range Rover then pairs its engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission, and the BMW comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. While one extra gear might sound minor, it can provide multiple benefits, such as:

This may be an easier task in the Range Rover Evoque compared to the BMW X3. The Range Rover comes with Terrain Response® 2, an advanced system that lets you toggle among six different modes.

Each mode is designed to optimize how the Range Rover Evoque performs on different terrain types, like when traversing rocks or driving on muddy roads. The BMW X3 offers no similar system.

All Terrain Progress Control, exclusive to the Range Rover Evoque, serves as a low-speed cruise control to tackle dirt roads as well as slippery surfaces. Without any comparable features, the BMW X3 may not be equipped to adapt to off-road terrain. The Range Rover Evoque offers greater confidence on dirt roads, mountain trails, sandy beaches, and other uneven topography.

Expressive Exterior

The coupe-like silhouette of the Range Rover Evoque adds to its sleek appearance with a fast roofline, unbroken waistline, and refined details like flush door handles. Its confident stance leads with a bold 3-dimensional front grille and ends with animated “super red” LED taillights.

Despite its signature kidney-shaped grille, the BMW X3 offers a more traditional and utilitarian design overall, indicative of other SUVs.

Shadow Atlas styling on the Evoque brings unique dark accents to the hood lettering, grille, door surround, tailgate, rear fender, and more that add to its modern aesthetic. These characteristics further distinguish the Range Rover Evoque from the BMW X3’s aluminum or body-colored exterior aspects. To top it off—literally—only the Range Rover has an available Black contrast roof.

Impressive Interior

The Range Rover Evoque and the BMW X3 strive to offer a sophisticated yet practical cabin, a mobile haven that welcomes you. As such, they provide many similar amenities to secure your comfort, including power-adjustable front seats with heating, Two-zone Climate Control, and configurable ambient cabin lighting. Still, the Range Rover Evoque goes a few extra steps to put you and your passengers firmly in the lap of luxury with standard:

• Heated steering wheel
• Panoramic roof

Although the BMW X3 makes leather available, it comes standard with Veganza, a synthetic. Similarly, a panoramic roof is only an optional feature with the X3. To ensure you and your passengers only breathe clean air, the Range Rover Evoque includes Cabin Air Purification Plus; no similar filtration system is offered with the BMW.

Inside the Range Rover Evoque and the BMW X3, you’ll find a sizable touchscreen that serves as your entertainment hub and connection interface. Through this display, you’ll access your apps, maps, contacts, music, and more with similarly equipped:

You’ll find high-quality sound systems in either model, too. The BMW X3 offers the optional Harman Kardon® surround sound system that includes a multi-channel system. However, the Meridian™ Surround Sound System in the Evoque is an award-winning system built on the principles of psychoacoustics, or how the brain perceives sound. While the audio is crisp in the BMW, it may not be as true to life as it is in the Range Rover.

Of course, no on-board technologies are more vital than those that help protect you and your most precious cargo. Range Rover and BMW take your safety as seriously as you do, which is why the Evoque and the X3 include many advanced driver-assistance systems. Among their similar standard safety features are:
